I knew something was wrong while watching the Republican primaries. Russia’s interference in the US election began before the hacked emails of John Podesta and the DNC came to light. Following is a combination of news stories and blog posts covering the historic events of 2016, as they happened.

(I read the RAND report on Russian information war ‘Firehose of Falsehoods’ and realized that the pattern matched almost exactly the pattern of US campaign news we were picking up at The Age. I wrote and published it in August and then after being mentioned in an editors’ conference in October, it was published again and got a wider readership. Basically, more of the public was aware by then that something was wrong.)
