Western Australia is big sky country

In what can be taken as a sign of an emerging space race between the US and China, the US and Australia have issued a memorandum of understanding to relocate an America C-Band space surveillance radar to Western Australia in 2014 to monitor “present and redundant” satellites, the Australian Financial Review reports.
“Australia and the US also commenced discussions about relocating an American space surveillance telescope to the region; most likely in Western Australia,” the media report states.
The announcement comes out of the 2012 Australia US Ministerial meeting in Perth.
More on the AUSMIN communique soon.
