Nuclear powered subs for Australia to protect itself from its biggest trading partner?

Australia’s top property hawker-turned-national security expert Chris Joye reports that coalition members have been in discussions with the US about the prospect of Australia beefing up its fleet with nuclear power subs. Yes, China, Australia’s biggest trade partner, is also the biggest strategic concern. The article says, and I have heard similarly, that even some of Australia’s neighbors would support the move to help counter balance China’s growing naval might and ambitions. Why?
